How to Use Just 4 Kicks with Ableton, FL Studio, and Logic Pro (Complete Guide)

Just 4 Kicks works as a VST3 plugin on Windows and macOS, and as an AU plugin on macOS. That means it works in virtually every modern DAW. This guide covers the three most popular: Ableton Live, FL Studio, and Logic Pro (honorable mention to our favorite, Bitwig Studio <3) — with specific steps for each, including how to make the most of the plugin once it's loaded.
Before you start: installation
Download the installer from your Just 4 Kicks account page after purchase.
Windows: Run the .exe installer. Just 4 Kicks installs to your default VST3 folder (C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3). If your DAW scans a different folder, point the installer there.
macOS: Run the .pkg installer. Just 4 Kicks installs as both VST3 (/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3) and AU (/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components). Logic Pro uses AU; Ableton and FL Studio use VST3.
After installation, boot up your DAW and run a plugin rescan if prompted.
Ableton Live
Setup
Open Ableton Live. Go to Preferences → Plugins.
Confirm VST3 Plugin Folder points to your VST3 directory. If not, set it and click Rescan.
Once scanned, Just 4 Kicks appears in the Plugins browser under VST3 → Just 4 Noise.
Loading Just 4 Kicks
Create a new MIDI track (Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+T).
In the browser, drag Just 4 Kicks onto the MIDI track's instrument slot.
The plugin window opens automatically.
Workflow in Ableton
Generate and export: Type your prompt → Generate → drag and drop the object OR click download → the file saves to your downloads. Drag it into a new Audio track or drum rack in your project.
Play via MIDI: Place a MIDI clip on the track with Just 4 Kicks loaded. Trigger the generated sound with any note. This lets you sequence kick hits directly without exporting.
Ableton Drum Rack integration: Grab your generated kicks and drag them into Drum Rack pads. Build a full AI-generated kit in the Drum Rack alongside other elements.
Pro tip for Ableton: Use the MIDI clip approach for live performance or loop-based sessions. Use the Export approach when you want the kick to sit independently in an arrangement view with full automation options.
FL Studio
Setup
Open FL Studio. Go to Options → Manage plugins.
Click Find plugins and confirm your VST3 folder is included in the search paths.
Just 4 Kicks appears in the plugin list. Right-click and Verify to add it to your plugin database.
Loading Just 4 Kicks
Open the Channel Rack (F6).
Click the + button → select More plugins → find Just 4 Kicks under VST3.
Alternatively: in the Browser, navigate to Plugins → Installed → VST3 → drag Just 4 Kicks into the Channel Rack.
Workflow in FL Studio
Generate and export: Type your prompt → Generate → drag-and-drop or download WAV → drag the exported file into the Playlist or into a Sampler channel in the Channel Rack.
Sampler channel approach: Export your generated kick, then load it into a Sampler channel in the Channel Rack. This gives you FL Studio's full envelope, filter, and effects chain over the generated sound.
FPC integration: Export multiple generated kicks and load them into FPC (FL Studio's drum pad controller) for a complete AI-generated kit with FL Studio's native sequencing.
Pro tip for FL Studio: Generate 3–5 kick variations with slightly different prompts. Load all of them into FPC pads and test them against your pattern before committing. The comparison is instant and the best one is obvious in context.
Logic Pro
Setup
Logic Pro uses the AU (Audio Units) format on macOS — not VST3. Just 4 Kicks installs an AU component automatically during macOS installation.
Open Logic Pro. Go to Logic Pro → Preferences → Plug-in Manager.
Click Reset & Rescan Selection or Rescan to pick up newly installed plugins.
Just 4 Kicks appears under Audio Units → Just 4 Noise → Just 4 Kicks.
Loading Just 4 Kicks
Create a new Software Instrument track.
Click the instrument slot in the channel strip → navigate to AU Instruments → Just 4 Noise → Just 4 Kicks.
The plugin interface opens in Logic's native plugin window.
Workflow in Logic Pro
Generate and export: Type your prompt → Generate → drag-and-drop or download WAV → the file saves to your specified location. Import into Logic via File → Import Audio or drag directly into the Tracks area.

General tips for all DAWs
Name your generated files descriptively. When you export, rename the file before saving — "Deep_808_Slow_Decay_G.wav" is infinitely more useful than "Just4Kicks_Export_001.wav" when you're digging through your library in 3 months. We already have some file naming out of the box, but rename to what works best for you.
Keep a generation log. Favorite samples to maintain a simple list of prompts that produced results you loved. Your best prompts are worth saving — they're the foundation of your personal AI drum recipe book.
Use our built-in pitch tools. Before you export, adjust the pitch directly in the plugin. After exporting, use your DAW's clip pitch controls to fine-tune the kick's root note to match your track. In Ableton, this is the Clip Pitch in the Clip view. In FL Studio, use the Sampler's pitch knob. In Logic, use Quick Sampler's Tune parameter.
Generate in context. Load a basic arrangement first — even just a bassline loop — before generating. Evaluating a kick in silence is almost useless; evaluating it against your actual track takes 5 seconds and saves you 3 generations.
